About online accounting degrees
Accounting degrees prepare students to record, report, audit and analyze financial information, with modules in financial and management accounting, auditing, taxation and law.
Online, accounting appears as dedicated bachelor's degrees (BS/BSc Accounting, Bachelor of Accounting), master's degrees (MAcc, MS Accounting, Master of Professional Accounting) and as accounting majors or concentrations inside commerce and business degrees.
Bachelor's, master's and doctoral pathways
Bachelor's
Bachelor's degrees in accounting usually combine a business core with a full accounting sequence. Some are designed to align with a professional accounting body; profiles state this only when the institution does.
Master's
Master's degrees in accounting include conversion programs for graduates of other disciplines and advanced programs for those who already studied accounting. Read the entry requirements to see which one a program is.
Doctoral
Accounting is mostly studied at doctoral level as a specialization within a business PhD or DBA.
Dedicated degrees and concentrations
A dedicated accounting degree is listed as such; an accounting major or concentration within a broader business or commerce degree is labelled as a concentration.
Where the institutions are based
A destination is where the institution is based, not a residency requirement or a promise of eligibility.
Delivery and attendance
- 6 of 55 programs state that no campus visit is required. Show them
- 3 require some in-person attendance — residential weeks, an on-campus induction, exams or a defense — shown on each profile.
- 43 do not say either way on their official pages; we show them as not verified rather than assume.
Admission differences to check
- Professional accreditation of a program (for example by CPA Australia, CA ANZ, ACCA or similar bodies) is shown only where the program page says so, and it is separate from legal degree recognition.
- Requirements for professional licensing or chartered status are set by those bodies and by jurisdiction; a degree alone does not confer them.
- Among listed programs, 0 publish a required GMAT/GRE and 12 publish it as optional, waivable or not required; 1 require work experience. The rest do not state it.
Tuition context
46 of 55 programs publish tuition we could verify. Figures stay in the institution's own currency and basis and are not converted; per-credit, annual and whole-program prices cannot be compared directly.
Published bases: per credit (38), per academic year (28), entire program (15), per term (4), per semester (2), per course (2), per module (1).
